If I get one more email telling me I need to have a “New Me” for the New Year, I’m going to scream. Apparently I’m supposed to lose weight, be more productive, invest more wisely, read more books, declutter, volunteer, give myself a new look…
None of those are bad things, and in fact, I might do some of them. What I don’t like is the fundamental assumption that there is something wrong with me that needs to be fixed. That’s not true. I rock. Me and you, too. We utterly rock and we do our best everyday.
So this year, before you start making that list of resolutions/goals/intentions, please take 15 minutes – yes, a full 15 minutes – to sit quietly and think about yourself, the superstar. Relish all the amazing things you did this year. You were kind, you showed up for others, you kept your word, you held the door for that person that one time… Write those things down. Flip back through your calendar and make a note of the glorious things that happened, all the victories.
Because you are perfect the way you are. Sure, there’s room for a little improvement, but take a moment, stay in the moment, and appreciate all the glory that makes you uniquely you.
Happiest of New Years to you,
Your Friend,
Jennifer
